Subaru is the automobile manufacturing division of Japanese transportation conglomerate Fuji Heavy Industries (FHI), the twenty-second biggest automaker by production worldwide. Subaru is most known for its use of the Symmetrical drive-train layout since 1972. It is also known for its use of the boxer engine layout in most of its vehicles. The flat/boxer engine and all-wheel-drive became standard equipment for mid-size and smaller cars in most international markets by 1996 and now is standard in most Subaru vehicles. The lone exception is the BRZ, it was created in 2012, which uses the boxer engine. It is not an all-wheel-drive, but instead uses a rear-wheel-drive structure.
